Students whose application for resident status has been denied may appeal the decision. Appeals must be submitted no later than thirty calendar days after the decision has been made. The Residency Appeals Committee reviews appeals of resident classification.
Even if you choose to appeal a residency decision, you must pay nonresident fees at the time designated for payment of fees. That payment is required by law before your appeal may proceed. If you are found to be a resident, the difference between resident and nonresident fees will be refunded. Subject to provisions of K.S.A. 77-601 et. seq.
The decisions of the Residence Appeals Committee shall not be subject to further administrative review by an officer or committee of the University, or by the Kansas Board of Regents. The decision of the Residency Appeals Committee is the final determination made by the University of Kansas.
Residency appeals forms are provided with the denial decision. To request an additional appeals form, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once an appeal and the supporting documentation are received by the University Registrar’s Office, students will receive an email noting the time, location, and additional information regarding the meeting. For additional questions regarding the residency appeals process, please call 785-864-4423.
